Commitment, what is commitment? Why do people commit themselves to someone or something? Most people willingly commit to following a sports team, Husbands and Wives commit to one another. But how strong are those commitments? In Luke 14:25-26 we read that great multitudes went with him (Jesus). Then Jesus said to them “if any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife and children, and brethren, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. The English language does not fully bring out “there went great multitudes with him.” In the Greek language this is an imperfect tense. This means that at this time, great multitudes began to repeatedly and continuously follow Jesus. Why, was it because of the healing, the miraculous provision of food or the strength of his teaching. We cannot be sure of the individual reasons, however we do know that after he made the statement unless you hate your father or mother etc. Many turned away. In these teachings we will look into what Jesus actually was saying and what that should mean to those who choose to follow him, to be a disciple.
